YEAR 1

Year 1 students completed a five week gymnastics program this week that has been delivered by the Jet Gymnastics Club. Students have enjoyed learning some of the skills of gymnastics including balancing, various jumps and landings, rolls and swings. They have completed activities that involve whole body strength and have learnt to move their bodies in new ways.

Gymnastics develops movement patterns and abilities that support participation in a range of sports and physical activities.

In Maths, they have been using scales to weigh objects in class. They used hefting to first estimate the mass of objects and then use a scale. They also identified 3D shapes and discussed their attributes such as faces, edges and corners.

Book Week was also celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and I was so proud of the students for creating a wall story based on the book we read in class. They did such a fantastic job in choosing a page from the book and writing that part of the story as well as illustrating it. They also participated in an incursion and enjoyed making their own bears from the story.

The character parade culminated the Book Week with students dressing up as their favourite book character. I was totally amazed by the effort that people went to. It was great to see the number of children who dressed up as book characters and brought their books along to share.

Overall it has been a very busy term and I think we are all looking forward to a restful break. Students will be assigned online homework to complete during the holidays. Please continue to read with your child by borrowing books from the Shepparton Library as well as practising the words sent with them.

Thank you for your continued support,
